Ambition and strategy

A multidisciplinary institution located in the heart of the French Alps, Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) is renowned for its scientific and technological research activities, aimed at providing essential training to students and faculty and at addressing societal issues.
Rooted in its territory, multidisciplinary and open to the world, UGA brings together all the strengths of public higher education in Grenoble and Valence. The institution counts 59,000 students, including 10,500 international students, 3,000 PhD students, and 7,800 staff. Among its divisions are Grenoble INP, Graduate schools of Engineering and Management, UGA, Sciences Po Grenoble School of Political Studies, UGA and ENSAG, School of Architecture, Université Grenoble Alpes, UGA.

In a unique partnership with national research institutions (CEA, CNRS, Inria, Inserm and Inrae) and in association with the major international instruments (ESRF, ILL, EMBL, IRAM, GHML) present on its territory, UGA is building its research and innovation policy on a global scale.

UGA's strategic ambition is to strengthen its leadership in research and education in order to build a major international, eco- and socio-responsible university that:
  • Creates and transmits knowledge and brings together disciplines to collectively meet the challenges of tomorrow and transform society
  • Reinforces its social openness to students and staff, and develops support and diversity of paths
  • Confirms its position as an essential pillar of the region, from the Alps to the Rhone Valley
  • Participates in the ESRI strategy, in France's influence and in the construction of the European Higher Education and Research Area
This ambition is expressed in the 2021-2024 strategic plan, which includes its vocation and raison d'être, its ambition and its five strategic axes.

The MIAI aims to conduct research at the highest level in artificial intelligence, to offer attractive courses for students and professionals at all levels, to support innovation in large companies, SMEs and start-ups, and finally to inform and interact with citizens on all aspects of AI..

The European Seal of Approval "HR Excellence in Research" (HRS4R)

UGA obtained the “HR Excellence in research” award, given to schools that take part in the HRS4R “Human Resources Strategy for Researchers” process. This award highlights organizations that implement the 40 principles from the “European Charter for Researchers” and the “Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers” within their human resources policy.

Cross disciplinary program (CDP) projects

Inter- and multidisciplinarity are ways to address scientific and socio-economic challenges at the interface of disciplinary fields, challenging them to go beyond their current frontiers. One of the university's two focuses consists of connecting disciplinary fields to support the progress of science, knowledge and innovation.

UNITE!

Selected and funded by the European Commission since June 2019, UNITE! (University Network for Innovation, Technology and Engineering) aims to create a large European campus from Finland to Portugal.

Pegase: transforming teaching practices from kindergarten to high school

The Research and Education Center of the Regional Education Authority of Grenoble on fundamental knowledge for fighting inequality in education (PEGASE) is a pilot training center for teachers and research in education supported by the future investment program, whose goal is to transform teaching practices from kindergarten to high school in order to strengthen the teaching of fundamental knowledge and help reduce inequality in the education system.

The UGA Graduate School (GS@UGA) is a structuring and transdisciplinary programme that prepares French and international students, through the two-year Master's programme, for doctoral research or direct professional integration.
