Addressing discrimination

What is discrimination?

Discrimination is characterized by three elements:
  1. Unfair and unfavorable treatment of a person or group of people.
  2. Linked to a criterion defined by law (there are 26, including origin, physical appearance, family name, real or supposed affiliation to a race, ethnic background, nation or religion, the ability to speak another language, sexual orientation or gender identity).
  3. Taking the form of an act, practice or rule in the professional sphere or in access to goods or a private / public service (e.g., refusal to hire, wage difference, refusal to hire as an intern, access denied to university premises).
A full list of discrimination criteria is available at service-public.fr (in French).

Discrimination is a criminal offense and the grounds for discrimination constitute aggravating circumstances for the penalties incurred.

Our commitments

At Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA), we are committed to preventing discrimination, protecting and supporting victims and witnesses of discrimination, and to handling reports of discrimination.

Reporting discrimination at UGA

We have created an online form for students and staff. This form is addressed to staff and students of Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) and its component institutions Grenoble INP-UGA and Ensag-UGA. It should be used to report incidents of SGBV, discrimination or harassment, involving oneself or a third party.

Training to identify and address discrimination

We offer training and awareness sessions related to this topic, in order to equip our students and staff to encourage responsible behavior and deal with inappropriate acts.
