What is racism and anti-Semitism?

Racism and anti-Semitism are ideologies based on stereotypes and prejudices, i.e. shared opinions pertaining to a group or an individual belonging to a group.

Racism and anti-Semitism take the form of a continuum of acts ranging from insults to physical violence, exclusion, intimidation, harassment and threats, including via digital media. Racist and anti-Semitic behavior covers all acts against a person or group of people, on the grounds of their origin, or their real or supposed affiliation (or non-affiliation) with an ethnic background, alleged race, nation or religion.

Racist and anti-Semitic comments and acts are criminal offenses, in addition to behavior liable to disciplinary actions at the University. The racist or anti-Semitic nature of a criminally reprehensible act constitutes an aggravating circumstance that increases the penalty incurred.

Racist or anti-Semitic discrimination is also legally recognized.

At Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA), we are committed to preventing racism and Anti-Semitism, protecting and supporting victims and witnesses of racism and Anti-Semitism, and to handling reports of racism and Anti-Semitism.

Reporting racism and Anti-Semitism at UGA

We have created an online form (in French) for students and staff. This form is addressed to staff and students of Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) and its component institutions Grenoble INP-UGA and Ensag-UGA. It should be used to report incidents of SGBV, discrimination or harassment, involving oneself or a third party.

Training to identify and address racism and Anti-Semitism

We offer training and awareness sessions related to this topic, in order to equip our students and staff to encourage responsible behavior and deal with inappropriate acts.
