Partnership with Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany)

KIT

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is one of the top German technological universities and a key strategic partner for the Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA).

The partnership is based on close scientific cooperation and on the establishment of high-quality programs that facilitate researchers' visits.

Over a hundred French and German students benefit from this partnership each year, and several theses and post-docs have been funded in joint laboratories. This partnership is part of UGA's actions within the Université Franco-Allemande (UFA), which supports several integrated programs between the two universities.

General framework

A joint action plan has been agreed upon between KIT and UGA to support the activities of 4 working groups on two topics:
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Energy: Batteries, Hydrogen, Energy system design.
A strategic committee has also been established to oversee the strategic partnership and define its priorities and means.

Key figures

  • 155 co-published scientific articles since 2019
  • 134 outgoing mobilities and 164 incoming mobilities since 2016
  • 4 joint supervision theses established since 2018, with one defended in December 2021.

In the academic field

4 dual degrees, accredited and financially supported by the Université Franco-Allemande, exist:
  • in Physics with PhITEM, UGA
  • in Computer Science with Grenoble INP - Ensimag, UGA
  • in Industrial Engineering and Economics with Grenoble INP - UGA
  • in Electrical Engineering with Grenoble INP – Phelma, UGA.

In the research field

A highly active scientific cooperation involves numerous UGA’s laboratories: Collaborations are strengthened and developed within the framework of the UGA-KIT-CEA working groups.

Projects with national research organizations:
  • the international research laboratory Dark Matter Lab (DMLab - astroparticle physics) involving the National Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics (IN2P3, CNRS) and the Laboratory of Subatomic Physics and Cosmology (LPSC, UGA)
  • the international research project “Superconductivity: from materials to device applications” (SupraDevMat) involving the LPMMC, the LNCMI and the G2ELab.
  • the international research network Neutrino involving the IN2P3, the CNRS and the CEA.
