The Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) maintains its lead at the national level, ranking at the top of French universities in the new INPI 2025 rankings published on Tuesday, 3 March 2026. Across all categories, it ranks fourth among public organisations producing the most innovations in France.
Obstructive sleep apnoea is a major public health issue: it affects more than 900 million people worldwide and raises questions about access to appropriate diagnosis and treatment. Supported by the French Ministry of Health as part of the national Forfait Innovation programme, a national study conducted in 18 sleep centres across France, coordinated by scientific teams from the University of Grenoble Alpes and Inserm, shows that the new Sunrise technology for at-home diagnostic pathways significantly reduces the time taken to access diagnosis and treatment. These findings are published today in The Lancet Regional Health – Europe.

Documented for 200 years, the Iguanodontia group is expanding with the discovery of a brand-new species, the first known to bear spikes with properties never before observed in dinosaurs. Scientists from the CNRS, Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) and their international partners have unearthed the exceptionally well-preserved fossilised skin of a young iguanodon specimen in China. This discovery was published in the journal Nature Ecology & Evolution on 6 February 2026.

With 3,348 patents filed over 20 years, Université Grenoble Alpes ranks as the most innovative university in Europe, according to a study by the European Patent Office examining the strategy of 1,200 European higher education institutions.
Université Grenoble Alpes maintains its position in the top 150 of the Shanghai Global Ranking, which compares the research output of the world's top 1,000 universities. Nationally, it holds the 5th spot among the best French universities.
