UGA’s result for the 2024 edition of this thematic ranking (released three months after the global Shanghai ranking) recognize, first and foremost, the excellence of the work carried out by the scientific teams in the laboratories and research structures of UGA and its partner research organizations. They also demonstrate that the institution’s research and innovation strategy continues to yield positive outcomes. This ambition must persist to further develop all disciplines, whether in fundamental and applied research, fostering multidisciplinarity and encouraging collaboration between research teams across laboratories and research hubs.

UGA in the world Top 50 in 4 disciplines

Ranked as the 11th university worldwide in Remote Sensing, UGA also placed 16th in Earth Sciences, 39th in Textile Science and Engineering, and 40th in Clinical Medicine.

The Shanghai Thematic Ranking 2024 assess institutions across five major categories—Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences—divided into 55 disciplines. Performance indicators include the number of scientific articles published in a specific discipline, the impact and citation frequency of these articles, the number of papers published in the top scientific journals, the international character of the published results (number of international teams involved), and scientific awards received by researchers from the evaluated universities.

Out of 55 evaluated disciplines, UGA is ranked in 33, including four in the top 50 and 10 in the top 100.
